December Meeting Documents and Draft Housing Production Plan
The Town of West Tisbury has begun a process to produce a Housing Production Plan (HPP), which is meant to guide the Town’s decisions about how it can be proactive in addressing our housing problems and create housing that’s affordable for our workers, families, elders and children. The plan will discuss how build affordable housing and where it makes sense to build it in terms of growth density in the Town?
The HPP process presents an opportunity for the Town to thoroughly examine the interconnectedness of demographic changes and ever-changing housing market conditions. A completed HPP will help Town leaders, policy makers and residents understand this relationship and how best to strike a path toward meeting the current and future housing needs of the community. This plan will also guide decision makers as they allocate Town-controlled resources for the production of new affordable housing and the preservation of existing housing as well as identify possible zoning revisions to meet identified housing needs.
Housing Production Plans are approved at the local level by the Board of Selectmen and Planning Board and then submitted to the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development for approval. HPPs are required to contain the following three elements:
- An assessment of the Town’s housing needs
- Goals to assist with meeting the needs
- Strategies toward achieving the goals
More information on the housing production plans can be found at http://www.mass.gov/hed/community/40b-plan/housing-production-plan.html
The Town will hold three interactive community workshops to help guide its housing policies and initiatives as part of the Housing Production Plan. Over the course of the three workshops we’ll decide who we want to help with housing, how much housing do we need and where do we want to build it? The workshops will be professionally facilitated.
The workshops will be held from 4:00 to 6:30 PM on
September 19th, November 14th and December 12th at the Public Safety Building.
All interested members of the public will be invited to participate in the workshops. Other participants will be the Town Selectmen, members of the Affordable Housing Committee, the Town Planning Board, the All island Planning Board Housing Work Group and consultants from the JM Goldson Community Preservation and Planning Group in association with RKG Associates, Inc.
Refreshments will be served.
Anyone interested in attending please call Rhonda Conley at 508-696-0108 or e-mail at [email protected] or write to Town of West Tisbury, PO Box 278, West Tisbury, MA 02575.
